What is biostimulator?

Biostimulator is a TGA-approved treatment that is used to treat facial wrinkles, folds, and volume loss. It is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material that stimulates collagen production, resulting in a more youthful and natural-looking appearance.

How does biostimulator work?

This treatment works by stimulating your skin's natural collagen production. When injected into the skin and underlying fat, it gradually replaces lost collagen, improving skin thickness and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and facial volume loss over time.

What areas can be treated with biostimulator?

This treatment is commonly used to treat sunken cheeks, smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines, neck laxity, chin wrinkles, and lost volume in the temples and jaw area. It can also be used to treat other areas of the body, for example, non-surgical butt lifts, and hand rejuvenation.

How long do the results of this treatment last?

Results of biostimulator are not immediate. You will notice gradual improvement over several weeks to months. From there, the effects can last up to two years or more.

Is this treatment safe?

Poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator treatments have been used for over 3 decades for cosmetic and medical indications and are TGA-approved. Like any medical procedure, this treatment carries some risks, such as swelling, redness, bruising, or lumps at the injection site, which are temporary. Rarely, one can experience longer-lasting lumps that require further intervention for removal. Blockage of blood vessels, infections, and allergic reactions are rare.

Are biostimulator injections painful?

Most patients would describe this treatment as minimally painful. Some areas may be more sensitive than others and your aesthetic injector will apply numbing where necessary.

How many biostimulator sessions are needed for optimal results?

The number of sessions required varies depending on the individual's age, skin condition, and treatment goals. Typically, two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart are recommended to achieve optimal results.

Is there downtime after this treatment?

There is minimal downtime with this treatment. Most people can return to their regular activities immediately after treatment. You may have some swelling for a couple of days, and redness, or bruising may occur, which can be concealed with makeup if desired.
